Concerns

March 27th, 2008

Today i have received two emails from the group:

Sonja has had recent week problems with her blog and internet at home, she could not submit anything, but otherwise she is full of willingness to participate.

I had a rather long chat with Sami the other day concerning the activity of participation of our group and we’re starting to get a bit worried how we can manage with our group work. It seems that surprisingly many members of our group have fallen behind and aren’t really participating on the conversations. This has had a rather negative impact on our motivation and were feeling really concerned how can we start the group work as it should during this week.

We can’t stop to wait the others to catch up because we’re having a rather tight schedule with our other studies as it is.

So what would you suggest as a solution so that we could maintain following the original week schedule and still give the other members a chance to catch up and have a say on the way we will work on the course?

I agree with this proposition.

What i suggest is to involve as many members as possible, who are active and willing to study, and start walking the path with them, initiating a shared space what you chose. Even then the group is big enough to work well.

This is university and not babysitting :) i assume all the learners here are grownups.

Tuesday we had a meeting between facilitators of all groups thinking what the strategy with less motivated (and not active) students could be. Our previous experience shows that just bombing someone with emails does not work. They remain unanswered.

Why some people seem not to be interested? There may be many reasons: not common learning environment, not interesting topic,  no time, illness, no willingness to learn, difficulties with technology.

If any of you reading this post has some of these problems what we could solve either locally by the help of local facilitator or with the help of group mates, we are open to any kind of help.

But we will continue like it is scheduled mostly.

Basically we as a group need to be accomplishing these things we do as a group by certain times. There are also some activities when different groups must interact, thus it is good to be at the same level with these groups by that time points. Otherwise we are quite flexible.
